Topic: [SOLVED] SCL3711, interface 0 claimed by pn533 , nfc-list sets conf...

I am running Ubuntu 12.04, have done ./configure, make, sudo make install of libnfc 1.5.1

On running nfc-list, I always get:

sudo nfc-list
[sudo] password for jules:
nfc-list uses libnfc 1.5.1 (r1175)
No NFC device found.

In dmesg I see:

usb 2-1.2: usbfs: interface 0 claimed by pn533 while 'nfc-list' sets config #1

I have tried with (and without, also restarting udev in between) the following rule in /etc/udev/rules.d:
50-nfcreader.rules

Update:

I found a specific guide to installing under Debian/Ubuntu, so have followed that to the letter, successfully built and installed the package but still get exactly the same error.

Under a previous Ubuntu install (11.10), this was all working fine even I think without doing the specific Debian install process.  So I guess my SCL3711 is physically OK.

Again, would really appreciate some help here, I'm not a complete Linux numpty but pretty well stumped on this one for now

Hi,

On recent Linux kernel (>= 3.1) you need to prevent modprobe from autoload pn533 and nfc modules.
To do that, create /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-libnfc.conf with this content:

blacklist pn533
blacklist nfc

Then, restart or unplug the device, unload modules (sudo modprobe -r pn533 nfc), then re-plug the device.

GENIUS! This solved my problem....in case anyone needs it detailed the command is:

 sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-libnfc.conf

@rconty thank you very much, this worked great for me !

I still have a question: You say pn533 and nfc modules are loaded automatically on kernels > 3.1, but I made a test on a coworker's desktop which had a 3.5 kernel without having to to blacklist any module.
For information, I am on 3.11, on Mint (same distrib for my coworker).

I wonder from which kernel exactly these modules are autoloaded.

If anyone has an idea, please let me know smile

nfc-list uses libnfc 1.7.0-rc5
error    libnfc.driver.acr122_usb    Unable to claim USB interface (Operation not permitted)
