Topic: Sony NFC-F Sample Gift Campaign

Sony has launched a sample gift campaign, see

The web site says:
"To support the development of NFC Forum Type 3 Tag enabled products, Sony has initiated a campaign to distribute 100 sample kits upon request to interested companies free of charge. The sample kit campaign aims at providing interested parties with a set of NFC Forum Tag Type 3 compatible cards as well as an NFC USB external reader. Using this kit, developers will be able to test their devices with NFC Forum Type 3 Tag compatible cards, as well as to change the NDEF formatted content on those using the supplied NFC reader."

The sample kit includes an NFC reader, 10 FeliCa Lite and 10 FeliCa cards all NDEF formatted.

The free kit comes with a PN533 based RC-S360 Sony reader.

Re: Sony NFC-F Sample Gift Campaign

Hello everyone!

I received my sample kit from Sony a few weeks back. I have been playing with it. So far I have been able to get it (RC-S360/SH) working using nfcpy: from my MacBook (Mac OS 10.6). Yesterday I tried installing libnfc, both on Mac OS and on a virtualized Ubuntu (11.04); however, I can't seem to be able to get it to work on neither of them.

It seems the library does not recognize the RC-S360.

I get the following error:

$ nfc-list
nfc-list use libnfc 1.4.0 (r833)
No NFC device found.

Has anyone been able to get it working?

This is the info I have for the device:

          Product ID: 0x02e1
          Vendor ID: 0x054c  (Sony Corporation)
          Version:  1.30
          Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
          Manufacturer: Sony
          Location ID: 0x04100000 / 4
          Current Available (mA): 500
          Current Required (mA): 150

Re: Sony NFC-F Sample Gift Campaign

I could get it working using SVN trunk on Windows 7 Pro 32bit and even on Ubuntu 11.04 with Vmware Player.

Re: Sony NFC-F Sample Gift Campaign

Just upgraded libnfc in my Ubuntu environment to version 1.5.0, but still no luck.

Here's the output of "nfc-list" and "lsusb":

Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Sony NFC-F Sample Gift Campaign

I tried the current trunk version, 1.5.0 (r1122),  on Mac OS. It seems to be working now!!!

$ nfc-list
nfc-list uses libnfc 1.5.0 (r1122)
